Released in 1982, Tron was considered groundbreaking when it came to special effects. The movie, however, at the time of its release had failed at the box office earning $50 million globally on a $17 million budget. Starring Jeff Bridges in the lead, Tron, over the years, attained cult status thanks to multiple viewing on Television and Home Video.
Third Tron movie possibly in the works, Jared Leto considered for lead
It has been over a decade since Tron: Legacy with plenty of vocal Tron fans clamouring for a sequel and it looks like a third film is finally going to be in development. Deadline reports Joachim Rønning (Maleficent: Mistress of Evil) is in talks to direct Tron: Ares, the title of the third film, starring Jared Leto (House of Gucci) in the lead role.
Plot details are still being kept under wraps for the third project but this news is very much in line with what Disney music executive Mitchell Leib have previously said about the future of the Tron franchise in a recent interview. Speaking on Light the Fuse podcast, Leib has also confirmed development on TRON 3 is still moving forward by revealing that the studio has already found a script they really like for the long-awaited project. In addition, he also revealed that he has been having discussion with Grammy-winning electronic duo Daft Punk about possibly returning to score the new film. 2ff7e9595c
